FG must merge UTAS and IPPIS to avoid another strike – OOU VC

Outgoing Vice Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Prof. Ganiu Olatunde has called on the federal government to merge the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) and the system Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) to have a seamless payment platform for speakers.

Olatunde insisted that the only way to peacefully resolve the continuing crisis between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the government over the preferable platform for the payment of teachers’ salaries is for the government to remove elements contentious issue of IPPIS and replaces them with the best features of UTAS.

The VC made the call yesterday during an interview with reporters in his office to mark the end of his five-year term. ASUU had rejected IPPIS, a payment platform created by the government to pay workers, insisting on UTAS as the preferred payment option.

But Olatunde, a former area coordinator of ASUU’s Ibadan area, said the government and ASUU must agree to merge UTAS and IPPIS to avoid further closure of public universities. He said: “The strike is a setback for us in this country; we pray and hope that we will have a way to solve our problems without going on strike.

“Do you have to have the IPPIS? Why can’t we look at these things in UTAS and put them in IPPIS so that it can give a flawless platform? »
