How to track your mail-in vote, find the clerk’s office

Michigan’s general election takes place on Tuesday, November 8, with several key statewide races and ballot proposals to be voted on.

Here’s what to know about Michigan’s general election before you vote:

What time do polls open and close in Michigan?

In-person voting will be available in all jurisdictions. Polling stations will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Where to vote in Michigan?

The Michigan Voter Information Center can help you find out if you are registered to vote, where you voted on election day and where your local clerk’s office is. Registered Michigan voters who moved within 60 days of the election can still vote at their previous address if they have not registered to vote at their new address by the close of registration for that election.

Do I need my voter card to vote?

Nope. As long as you are at the correct polling place, your name will appear on the registration list provided to your riding. The voter identification card is for your reference and is not required to vote. If you did not receive or lost the voter identification card, call your local clerk to replace it or visit the Michigan Voter Information Center to check the status of your registration.

Can I wear election-related clothing at the polls?

Michigan banned the practice of displaying election-related materials at polling places for decades. This includes clothing and buttons as well as materials like flyers, leaflets and stickers. You may not post such items in the polling place or within 100 feet of the entrance to a polling place. If you go to the polls with a shirt or button bearing election-related images or slogans, you will be asked to cover or remove it.

How to find your sample ballot

You can search for all of your voting information, including precinct or clerk location and sample ballot, at the Michigan Voter Information Center here.

Voting away? When should I submit my ballot?

Your completed absentee ballot must be received by your city or township clerk by 8 p.m. on Election Day. You can mail the ballot or hand-deliver it to your clerk’s office or drop box. If you are returning your ballot within two weeks of election day, we recommend that you deliver it by hand to avoid possible postal delays.

Has my ballot arrived?

All registered voters can track their ballot by viewing their information in the voter information section of this website.

What if I have an election day emergency?

If an emergency, such as a sudden illness or death in the family, prevents you from going to the polls on Election Day, you can request an emergency absentee ballot.

Emergency ballot requests must be submitted after the deadline for regular absentee ballots, but before 4 p.m. on Election Day.

The emergency must have occurred at a time when you were unable to request a regular absentee ballot. Please contact your local clerk for more information on emergency absentee ballots.

I submitted my ballot. Can I change my vote?

If a voter has already cast an absentee ballot and wishes to change their vote (because the candidate has dropped out of the race, or for any other reason), a voter may void their ballot by submitting a written request to the clerk of their city or county. canton.

  • The voter must sign the request and indicate whether they wish to receive a new absentee ballot or whether they will pick it up in person at the clerk’s office.

  • This request must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on the Friday before the election if received by mail. A mail-in ballot returned to the clerk may be voided in person at the clerk’s office until 10:00 a.m. on the Monday before the election. A mail-in ballot that has not been returned to the clerk may be voided in person at the clerk’s office until 4:00 p.m. on the Monday before the election.

  • If a voter has not returned their ballot, they may return their ballot or sign a declaration that the ballot has been lost or destroyed and vote at the ballot box. There is no option on Election Day to void an absentee ballot that has been received by the clerk.

The contact details for your clerk can be found in the voter information section of this website.
