Nigeria set to host African Track Cycling Cup

Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN) President Giandomenico Massari has said he is ready to host 20 countries for the African Track Cycling Cup.

Mr Massari, who revealed this in Abuja on Friday, said the championship would be held from July 14-17 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

“We are ready and ready to provide a competitive environment for all participants.

“The Federation has made all the necessary preparations and plans to organize a smooth championship,” said Mr Massari.

He also said there would be training for future commissioners.

While recalling that Nigeria hosted the first edition of the championship in July 2019 and emerged as champions among the nine participating countries, the CFN President said that Nigeria will also participate in the junior and elite level events in the men’s and men’s categories. women’s championship. .

Massari said the countries on the team that have expressed interest are Egypt, South Africa, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Cameroon and hosts Nigeria.

“The others are Benin Republic, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Italy, Burundi and Burkina Faso, among others,” he said.

Nigeria hosted the first edition of the championship in July 2019 in Abuja, with the Nigerian contingent consisting of 21 cyclists in both women’s and men’s categories.

The Nigerian team won a total of 51 medals; 21 gold, 18 silver and 12 bronze, to become champions.

They were followed by Egypt who came second after winning a total of 22 medals consisting of eight gold, seven silver and seven bronze.

Another North African team, Morocco, came third with seven medals including four gold and three silver.
