Blizzard Entertainment confirmed Overwatch 2 cross progression support, allowing heroes to carry over their progress as well as cosmetics to the upcoming game. Players can start merging their existing Overwatch 1 accounts right now so they’ll be ready to go once Overwatch 2 is released. Keep in mind that since Overwatch 2 is a free game, the current game will cease to exist.
Overwatch 2 cross-progression: how to merge existing accounts
Note that all players will need a Battle.net account to play, regardless of platform. From now on, when players log into Overwatch, anyone with a linked console account will be prompted to select which accounts they want to merge. All you have to do is validate your choice so that your accounts are merged when Overwatch 2 is released.
Blizzard Entertainment has warned that players will only have one chance to merge their accounts, so be sure to double check your choice before confirming! Once done, all data will be stored in your Battle.net account, allowing you to transfer your progress and cosmetics to your platform of choice.
For step-by-step instructions, see the official guidelines from Blizzard below:
- Log in to Overwatch from your console account.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to scan a QR code on your mobile phone.
- Enter the code displayed on your console to sign in or create your Blizzard Battle.net account.
- Once complete, you will be prompted to confirm your account the next time you log into the game to merge your accounts. Once you have merged a console account with a battle.net account, you will no longer be able to log in to another console account on the same platform. Double check to make sure you are linking the correct account to your battle.net account.
In other news, PlayStation Store’s “Games Under” promotion kicks off today, and it looks like Call of Duty: Warzone 2 will be releasing alongside God of War Ragnarok!
